FLUID FILM® undercoating in Port Huron, sprayed wet and left to creep

FLUID FILM® undercoating is a lanolin-based oil film we spray under and inside your vehicle at our Port Huron shop. The price depends on your vehicle's size, and it's renewed once a year. It stays wet, so it keeps working into the seams after the vehicle leaves the rack.

2498 Lapeer Rd, Port Huron, MI. 7 days · 9 AM – 10 PM, by appointment. Key drop box for drop-offs.

How to get it done

Tell us the vehicle through the quote form or call, and we'll confirm your price, usually the same day. Then we set a time, any day of the week. It takes about an hour, so wait for it or leave the keys in the drop box.

What FLUID FILM® is

It's a corrosion preventive made by Eureka Chemical Company of San Francisco, built on lanolin, the wool wax that keeps the rain off a sheep. Its maker describes the bulk product as solvent free, so nothing evaporates and leaves a dry skin behind. What stays on the metal is a film that repels moisture and keeps moving.

Is it an oil undercoating?

Yes, in everyday terms. Oil undercoating, oil spray and under-car oiling all describe a film that goes on wet and doesn't cure, unlike a rubberized or asphalt coating that dries into a sheet. Strictly, FLUID FILM®'s base is lanolin, so you'll also hear it called a lanolin or wool-wax undercoating. Woolwax, written as one word, is a separate brand, and it's not what we spray.

How it goes on

The vehicle goes up on the rack, and the film goes onto the frame and into it. What the spray can't quite reach, the film finds on its own over the next few weeks.

  • We look underneath first and tell you what we find
  • A dirty underside gets a wash, degrease and frame flush
  • Heavy scale gets knocked off, billed by the hour; light surface rust just gets sprayed
  • We wipe the visible edges before it comes down

What to expect afterward

It has a mild lanolin smell for a few days and can leave a light residue on the driveway the first week. The underside won't look painted. It wears back on the exposed surfaces over a Michigan winter, so it's a yearly job, and the annual touch-up is a flat price.

When it won't help

A film won't rebuild a frame that has rotted through. If yours looks badly gone, send a photo through the quote form first and we'll tell you whether it's worth doing.
