Is FLUID FILM® better than Corrosion Free?

For a vehicle that lives outside, drives salted or gravel roads, or already has surface rust, yes. For a new, garaged vehicle that's washed often, the difference over one season is small and a dried film is cleaner.

Does FLUID FILM® smell or drip?

It has a mild lanolin smell for a few days and can leave a light residue on a driveway the first week. It doesn't drip once the excess has settled, and we wipe the visible edges before the vehicle leaves.

Does FLUID FILM® wash off?

Gradually, on the exposed surfaces, over a winter of salt spray and pressure washing. That's why it's reapplied every year. Inside the seams and cavities, where it matters most, it stays.

Can you apply FLUID FILM® over a previous coating?

Yes, over most of them, and over existing rust. If an old hard coating is cracked and lifting, we'll tell you what we find on the rack.

What each one is

FLUID FILM® is a lanolin-based film, made of refined wool wax and corrosion inhibitors. It goes on wet and stays wet. Corrosion Free is a thin, dripless product that dries to a clear coating with a corrosion inhibitor in it. Both get sprayed in the same places, both get redone every year, and both beat doing nothing.

Why we chose the one that never hardens

Salt does its work in the seams and box sections. A product that keeps moving keeps finding those seams for weeks after it's applied, and it heals itself when a stone chips it. A product that dries stays where it landed, so a seam the spray missed stays unprotected until next year. On surface rust, the wet film soaks into the scale and stops it, with no stripping or primer. And it never cracks, so it can't trap water underneath.

Where the other one has a point

A dried film is cleaner. There's no smell for the first few days, no light residue on the driveway, and it holds up somewhat better to a summer of pressure washing. For a new vehicle that lives in a heated garage and gets washed weekly, the difference over one season is small. For one that lives outside, drives gravel and salt, and already has some rust, the film that keeps moving does more.
